VITA

I was born in Sondrio in 1974. I make documentaries in German and write in Italian. Sometimes the other way around.

I hold degrees in Political Economy from Bocconi University in Milan and in Philosophy from Heidelberg University. After living in Germany for twenty-seven years, I am returning to Italy. Connected to the world from a mountain cabin through the Internet.

I began by writing: as a journalist, consultant and translator. For years I portrayed Germany for Italian readers, and I translated into Italian, among others, Imre Kertész. I still write at scritti.melazzini.com.

Then I self-produced my first documentary, about the Italians in Bavaria, and in 2010 founded in Munich the production company Alpenway Media GmbH. As a director and producer I work with RAI, ARD, ZDF and ARTE, with European funds and both German and Italian Film Commissions; the films screen at international festivals and are broadcast on European cultural channels.

For my entrepreneurial commitment as a migrant citizen, I was awarded the PhönixPreis by the City of Munich, the first Italian ever to receive it. In 2020 the Migrantes Foundation featured me in its Rapporto Italiani nel Mondo. The German Embassy in Italy presents me as a testimonial, and I have been featured, among others, by Corriere della Sera and Süddeutsche Zeitung.
